About Us
Marshall Ghiotti had been marketing merbau decking for 30 years. He felt that, as time progressed the quality of timber deckings in general were slowly deteriorating.
He was constantly being asked for long, straight lengths and whilst there was always an abundance of short lengths, the problem of sourcing a consistent supply of good quality, long lengths at a fair price, was virtually impossible. Whilst Marshall always had timber "in his blood" he was also concerned for the longevity of the world's rainforests, from which most of our hardwood deckings are being produced.
- His idea to utilize the offcuts produced by the manufacture of normal decking was the "spark" that initiated DeckSTAR decking.
- He trialled finger-jointing.
- He trialled finger-jointing and laminating.
- And whilst these products were structurally sound, the market acceptance of these products was modest, due to the joints in the decking being visable.
- This problem had him stumped.
Eventually, Marshall's 16 year old son Jack, came up with the simple idea of "covering", and hiding the joints with another layer of timber. This would give the look of normal, solid decking, but with the benefits of a finger-jointed, laminated product. The end result, is a truly engineered timber decking product, that is perfect in its use. A merbau timber decking product that truly is, environmentally friendly.
Hence, DeckSTAR decking and screening products were born.
