What are DeckSTAR LVL products?

"LVL" is a term that stands for "Laminated Veneer Lumber". LVL Beams are widely used in the building and construction industry throughout Australia and the world. They are made up of many layers of plywood, glued together to form a beam. Their advantage is they give great strength while being extremely light and easy to work.

DeckSTAR LVL products are made of the same construction, but are moulded and are used as decking and screening products.

What species of timber is used?

The timber species used in DeckSTAR LVL products is "Hevea brasiliensis". Its common name is Rubberwood. It is a plantation hardwood.

Is the glue suitable for outdoors as a decking product?

Of course. The glue is a phenol resin. It is used extensively worlwide in outdoor and marine applications. (Full details are available on request)

What type of "oil coating" is used?

The coating on all DeckSTAR products is an oil based, "Teak" oil. It offers initial protection against the weather. Like all timber deckings, another coat of oil should be applied to maintain the original colour.

What quality assurances do I have?

All DeckSTAR products offer a specific guarantee against faulty workmanship and defective materials.

Is DeckSTAR LVL's similar to composite deckings?

It is important to understand all DeckSTAR products are 100% solid timber. (with exception of the glue). DeckSTAR LVL's are 100% plantation hardwood.

How about installation?

You can install all DeckSTAR products like any "normal " timber decking product. (full details are on website)

Because DeckSTAR LVL's are plantation species, does this mean no tropical hardwood forests are cut down?

Absolutely! DeckSTAR LVL's are made from plantation hardwoods that are cut down every 15-20 years. They are fully sustainable. No tropical "rainforest" species are used.
